To achieve stable water-based formulations, ingredients known as surfactants and emulsifiers are incorporated into a formulation. Typical food grade surfactants such as polysorbate 80 and soy lecithin impart extreme bitterness to a formulation and are easily detected. Green Mountain Scientific only used natural surfactants in the past and has recently optimized NanoGx to surfactant free for a truly superior sensory profile. NanoGx is currently produced and available in liquid and powder form to accommodate any product application.

What Is Water Soluble Cannabis?

Understanding the challenges presented by cannabis-based product formulation begins with the concept of solubility. Solubility is observed when two substances exhibit favorable interactions at the molecular level and dispersion of one substance into another is realized with the input of little to no energy (i.e., heat, mixing, etc.). The term “water soluble” is ubiquitous in the global cannabis market and like many other misconceptions attributable to a chaotic lexicon, the term is used incorrectly. Due to the solubility mismatch of cannabinoids and water, emulsions are required and the term Water Dispersible more accurately describes the properties observed.

Emulsification

Emulsions are fine dispersions of small droplets of one liquid in another which are not soluble or stable when simply mixed together. Emulsion technology is far from being unique to the cannabis industry. Encapsulation

Encapsulation (molecular) describes the confinement of a guest molecule into a supramolecular host molecule.
